High Resolution Site Characterization (HRSC) of Vertical NAPL Distributions
Objective: The purpose of this study was to generate vertical NAPL profiles using E-Flux Clear-Well
Methodology: A soil column was contaminated with LNAPL. Multiple cycles of water table levels were conducted, to generate a wide zone where the NAPL was observed. Surveys using Clear-Well were conducted at different water levels.
Results: Each Clear-Well survey was processed with E-Flux proprietary software. Our software pastes individual pictures taken at each location into a single image for the entire surveyed interval, then identifies NAPL at each point, and generates a vertical profile of NAPL saturations. Clear-Well surveys revealed drastically different contaminant distribution profiles at different water levels. In other words, the NAPL contaminant redistributed with each water level change, revealing the dynamic nature of the process, and the ability of Clear-Well to capture these dynamics.
